The Pink Elephant Company is an entertainment business started 40 years ago by myself, Neil Tordoff, while at school. Over those years I was mainly a DJ, adding karaoke, videos, large screens, bouncy castles, giant games, dance floors and anything else I could get in the van! Now it is the race nights I offer as I decided that DJing for 40 years was probably time to leave it to the young ones.
Along with a very patient wife and three children we have performed at all types of events in many varied locations. Our children have ‘helped’ to test bouncy castles while young, and now they are not so young, work alongside me doing the Tote at race nights. I am looking forward to when our grandson can help too.
Race nights are great fun for all ages. It is a game of chance, the runners don’t have any form and you select your bets on whatever system works – silly name or favourite number. If you win, then well done. If you lose, don’t forget to write your name on the back of your Tote ticket and pop it in the ‘Biggest Loser’ box. A lucky loser will win a prize at the end of the event. So the more you lose, the more lucky you might be.
If you are playing for cash, then you can select the price per bet, e.g. £1 or £2. People can place as many bets as they want per race, you could choose all 8 for a guaranteed win! Half the bet will go to the fundraising charity, the other half is shared out between the winners. It is only paid on a win, nothing for any other place.
If you are playing for fun, then everyone is provided with gold tokens for a bet per race. If you win you get paid out in more tokens. At the end, count them up and the person with the most tokens wins a prize.
Remember – the louder you shout, the faster your horse runs!
